[1] ‘Power’ refers to any act of providing power, whether generation, transmission, distribution or retail.
[2] ‘Secure’ refers to energy security. Energy security has a broad meaning of uninterrupted energy supply, and ‘energy security’ also encompasses the concepts of ‘sustainability’ and ‘reliability’ (which are also separately mentioned in the vision).  ‘Energy security’ goes further to include uninterrupted supply of the original energy source (e.g. the sun or coal) and considers broader factors such as international trade.
[3] ‘Reliable’ in this context is focused more towards system reliability (i.e. grid), reliable energy is one that is not interrupted e.g. blackouts.
[4] ‘Sustainable’ refers to environmental sustainability and also sustainability in electricity prices.
[5] In this context refers to all Australians.
[6] Aligns with KEPCO’s core value of ‘Challenge & Innovation’ & ‘Future Growth’.
[7] Reference to ‘services and projects’ opens the possibility to pursue a range of business areas e.g. retail business/ energy coin.
[8] Aligns with KEPCO’s core value of ‘Technology Leader’.
[9] We want to aim to be the best at what we do – this aligns with KEPCO’s core value of ‘Technology Leader’.

Our Values

"Powering the Future by Electrification"

It is a compelling concept that emphasizes the transition to a more sustainable and efficient energy system through the increased use of electiricity.

This approach has significant implications across various sectors, here are several key points to consider.

De-Carbonization

Electrification is crucial for reducing carbon emissions. By transitioning from fossil fuels to electricity sourced from renewable energy (such as solar, wind and hydropower), we can significantly lower greenhouse gas emissions. This is particularly important in sectors like transportation and heating, which are major contributors to carbon dioxide emissions.

Transportation Revolution

Electric Vehicles (EVs): The shift from internal combustion engines to electric vehicles is a major component of electrification. EVs are already proving to be more efficient and produce fewer emissions over their lifetime compared to traditional vehicles.

Public Transit: Electrifying public transportation systems, such as buses and trains, can improve air quality and reduce congestion in urban areas.

Smart Grids and Energy Efficiency

Smart Technology: An integrated smart grid can optimize energy distribution and consumption, enhancing efficiency and reliability. This can involve real-time tracking of energy use and demand response strategies.

Energy Storage: Battery technology is advancing rapidly, allowing for better storage of electricity generated from renewable sources, which can help balance supply and demand.

Industrial Electrification

Process Electrification: Industries, including manufacturing and heavy industries, can benefit from electrification by employing electric heat and electrified processes to replace fossil fuel use, leading to lower emissions.

Innovation in Technologies: The development of new electric technologies (e.g., electric boilers, heat pumps) can improve energy efficiency and reduce reliance on conventional fuels.

Building Electrification

Electric Heating: Transitioning from gas and oil heating systems to electric heat pumps can reduce emissions and improve energy efficiency in buildings.

Smart Homes: The integration of smart appliances and energy management systems can optimize energy use in residential settings, leading to decreased consumption and cost savings.

Global Impact and Policy

Government Initiatives: Effective policies and incentives are necessary to support the electrification transition, including subsidies for EVs, renewable energy installations, and energy efficiency programs.

International Cooperation: Global collaboration on research, development, and deployment of electrification technologies can accelerate the transition and share best practices.
